Food Minister orders probe in milling process

Chhattisgarh Food and Civil Supplies Minister Amarjeet Bhagat announced on Wednesday a probe into allegations of corruption in custom milling raised by a Congress MLA.

Congress MLA Daleshwar Sahu during Question Hour sought details of registered rice mills for custom milling in Rajnandgaon from 2018 to November 2020. How much paddy was allocated and the quantity of rice received after milling.

The Minister said that 70 millers were registered in 2018-19 and 79 in 2019-20.

Sahu first sought details of documents necessary for registration of rice mills for custom milling and the role of the Food Inspector.

He then demanded a probe saying that without documents showing power connection, a must for registration of millers, the millers were given paddy for custom milling. They custom milled 60,000 tonnes of paddy and handed over 40,000 tonnes of rice.

Sahu said he wished to be part of the investigation team.

BJP members and Dharamjeet Singh (JCC-J) supported Sahu saying that when a member is raising an issue with documentary proof, the Minister should order a probe, which Bhagat did. He also sought documents from Sahu.
