Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) president, Bhupesh Baghel has advised Chief Minister Raman Singh to first start following traffic rules himself before ‘thrusting any new order upon the general public’.
Baghel’s statement came days after the Chief Minister’s order of making helmet compulsory for two-wheeler riders. The CGPCC chief claimed that the Chief Minister himself never fastened seat belt while travelling in the car.“Doesn’t the Supreme Court’s order apply on the Chief Minister and many Ministers of his Cabinet, who travel in cars with tinted glasses” asked Baghel.
He added: “If you do not follow the traffic rules, how you can expect the people to follow the same.’“The State Government’s decision of making VIP Road as a ‘single road’ is one the examples of benefiting a hotel being constructed in the area.” he claimed.Baghel added that many accidents were reported on the stretch of VIP road due to the under construction hotel and the locals had also registered their protest against the decision but to no avail. He said that the two-wheeler riders including outsiders, who arrived here in Raipur business and other purposes, were harassed by the traffic police in the name of traffic rules.
Baghel claimed that implementing the rule of wearing helmet will only increase the road accidents within the city limit. He said that the rule of wearing helmet must be implemented for the two-wheeler riders travelling on the national highway, ring road and other main roads.Baghel asked the Chief Minster to remove black films from his and the Ministers’ cars. Besides, they must fasten seat belt to set a good example before the public.
