Films can't ignore social accountability: Brijmohan

Agriculture Minister Brijmohan Agrawal said that cinema is changing according to the society but the social accountability of cinema could not be ignored. The films should be reflection of society but the art is worth only if it gives the right direction to society.

Agrawal was speaking as the chief guest of a programme on India cinema organised by lions Club Raipur here on Sunday. He said that evergreen patriotic songs are played occasionally like on national festivals or birthday of any great personality. ‘Despite rich culture and art, we are not being able to create comparatively better music or songs. It is a matter of serious concern for the field of art and culture to find out the cause of this degradation.’

Agrawal further said that it is very painful to find an Indian giving examples of foreign writers in his work. It hurts when people criticise Indian cinema by calling it ‘masala film’ while most of the foreign films are meaningful and have some message. It’s a matter of serious contemplation and we have to find out how have we reached this situation, he said.

Agrawal said that Vedas, Puranas and Geeta have the essence of life and knowledge has spread across the world from India. Now we are following the world and this raises a question on our progress. We need to go through the history and present the prestigious history to the new generation.

Anil Chaubey was the keynote speaker of the programme. Senior president of lions Club Raipur Jaiprakash Sharma, Niranjan Haritwal, Shobhan Ganguly, Shobha Pandit, Ranjana Katakwar, Mohan Sundrani, Yogendra Chaubey, Manoj Verma, Santosh Jain, Kshamanidhi Mishra, Dilip Nampillawar, and others were present on the occasion.
