The Congress party has once again raised questions regarding report submitted by National Investigation Agency (NIA) over its investigation of the Jheeram valley massacre by Maoists in which several key Congress leaders and others were killed on May 25, 2013 in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district.

The Congress has asked as to why statement of Indian Police Service Officer Mayank Shrivastava who was the then Superintendent of Police of Sukma district was not recorded in connection with the incident.

Former MlA Mohammed Akbar while addressing a press conference here on Wednesday questioned why were statements of guards deployed for protection of Senior Congress leader Nand Kumar Patel who killed in the incident was not recorded by NIA.

“Chief Minister Raman Singh has accepted that there were serious lapses that led to the Jheeram valley incident on May 25, 2013. However, those lapses were never clarified. later on, the then SP Sukma, Mayank Shrivastava was suspended,’ he said.

However, the grounds for his suspension remain ambiguous till the date,” Akbar said adding barely two years have passed and he has been given charge of Durg district. “We exhort NIA to perform a thorough investigation and file  a supplementary  charge sheet in this case,” Akbar said.
