'Fight for common man's cause yielded results'

The fight of Congress party for the common man has yielded results, claimed Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) President Bhupesh Baghel while reacting over the results of urban body polls declared on Sunday.

“Standing for issues related to the public yielded good results for us,” he said.  According to Baghel, out of 10 Municipal Corporations BJP had to face defeat in 6 of the civic bodies.  In Municipalities also, the BJP is lagging behind and in Nagar Panchayat polls, the Congress party has gained strong position, the CGPCC President claimed.

Over former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ajit Jogi’s non participation in election, Baghel said tickets were distributed as per the direction of party high command and polls were fought under a collective leadership. “Ajit Jogiji is our senior leader and he must introspect,” Baghel added.  Replying over party’s setback in Dhamtari and Durg, ClP leader TS Singhdeo said that the party will have to think over factors which did not work in its favour.

“However we feel that in Dhamtari our opponent was a strong candidate and in Durg we were not able to control the Independent candidate that caused us heavy,” Singhdeo remarked.  The energetic participation of party workers over different issues also helped us in winning polls, he said, adding, there is much to be done ahead.
