A female leopard was electrocuted by poachers in a forested patch of Kawardha district in Chhattisgarh. One person has been arrested, a Forest Department official said on Tuesday.
Divisional Forest Officer Dilraj Prabhakar said the dead leopard was spotted in the Kauha Pani jungles of Lohara Forest Range.
“The big cat was electrocuted by poachers. A live wire was found near it on Monday afternoon," the officer said, adding that an investigation was on. Sniffer dogs summoned from the Achanakmar sanctuary led to the accused in Kauha Pani village. The post-mortem of the three-year-old leopard showed it was electrocuted. It was consigned to flames in the forest, the officer said.
