With th onslaught of scorching summer while various throat and tongue soothers available for a price, a pleasant feast to the ears is offered for free to the Raipurites by an organisation. Speakers that play soft instrumental music have been installed in the city at two traffic signals with an aim to provide respite to commuters from pointless blasting of horn, heat and pollution.
A city non-governmental organisation (NGO) Ideal Public Safety and Welfare Society has installed speakers at traffic signals in the city that play instrumental songs from the era of 1980s and 1990s in a volume that does not go beyond a range of 25 metres. The NGO plans to install more such speakers in the city.
“We are getting positive feedbacks from the commuters and we will soon install more speakers at 8-10 traffic signals in the city,” said Organiser of the organisation Sandeep Dhuppad.
Social messages of public interest like importance of water conservation, road safety, tax payment are also being played through the speakers. The speakers stop functioning after the deadline of 10 pm.
“Sometimes I have to wait at a signal for 90 seconds. It is nice to listen to old songs for the time being, instead of the cacophony on road,” said a commuter Shaili Jangid.
The organisation is doing this in collaboration with the Raipur Municipal Corporation. These speakers are waterproof and are installed at Sharda Chowk and Jai Stambh Chowk.
