Farmers in the State will mount pressure on both the BJP and Congress parties for fulfilling the promises made by them in their election manifestos. For that, the farmers have prepared an action plan for agitation under the banner of Kisan Morcha.
Sanket Thakur, an associate with Kisan Morcha, said that leaders of 14 farmers’ organisations on Sunday held a meeting to fight for the interest of farmers across the State. During the recently held State Assembly elections, the BJP in its manifesto had promised to give Rs 2,100 support price for paddy per quintal along with `300 as bonus to the farmers. Similarly, the Congress had declared to give Rs 2,000 support price for paddy per quintal. As the BJP has once again been successful in forming Government, the Kisan Morcha will mount pressure on the government to fulfil the promises made to the farmers. In the meeting, action plan for a state-wide agitation for support price of paddy and several other issues related to farmers has been prepared. After the meeting, the Morcha submitted a memorandum listing the demands of the farmers to Agriculture minister Brijmohan Agrawal. PNS
