Chhattisgarh Excise department on Saturday conducted a state-wide surprise inspection of liquor shops to prevent illegal liquor sale and overcharging ahead of Lok Sabha elections.
The department is registering the complaints related to sale of liquor at higher rates, apart from monitoring the sales, Excise officials said. Immediate actions are being taken on complaints.
As part of the inspection, the excise department officials raided 91 country made/foreign liquor outlets in the state. Out of which seven shops were charging more than the specified rate of liquor. Based on complaints action has been initiated against shop in-charge.
Officials said that in Balodabazar-Bhatapara the excise department received the complaint on its toll free number that liquor is being sold at higher rate than the specified rate.
District Electoral Officer and district collector Kartikeya Goyal imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the erring employees of the liquor outlets.
