Ex-Mayor Vani Rao joins Jogi-led party

Published on:

Former Mayor of Bilaspur Municipal Corporation, Vani Rao joined Chhattisgarh Janata Congress (Jogi) here on Saturday at a function.

After resigning from Congress in which she had once served as chief of the women cell of the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee, Rao formally entered in CJC(J) during ‘Sarv Jan Hitay, Sarv Jan Sukahy Mahasammelan’ organized by CJC(J) at Science College ground at Sipat.

Notably, Rao was reported not to be in good terms with incumbent Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Bhupesh Baghel and she was also slapped a notice by the party during the last held civic body elections.

“Vani Rao has formally joined CJC(J) after being impressed by party founder and former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi,” Subrat Dey spokesperson of the CJC(J) said.

Rao hails from a hardcore Congress family and her decision to switch over to former chief minister Ajit Jogi’s party, is considered a big blow to Congress in Bilaspur.
