Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said the World Environment Day (June 5) inspires to enhance the harmony between humans and nature.
In a message to the people of the state, Baghel said an uncontrolled exploitation of nature was causing a crisis for the environment as well as life.
“Now the time has come that in order to save our existence, we should think seriously and work more towards saving the environment. Otherwise it will be difficult for the coming generations to get clean air,” an official communication quoting him as saying.
It is a matter of pride that in the last four-and-a-half years, Chhattisgarh has made itself known as the cleanest state in the country. It is the first state to constitute ‘Harit Chhattisgarh’, he said.
The government has taken several steps to save forests, and farmers are being encouraged to plant trees. Plantation on a large scale has been taken up on the banks of rivers, in forests and Gauthans.
Baghel further said under the Suraji Gaon Yojana, stress has been given to preserve the fertility of the soil and groundwater level. Organic farming is being promoted. In urban areas, sewerage treatment plants are being set up. He urged the people to save trees. Also, more and more trees should be planted. All this will help in building a pollution free healthy Chhattisgarh and India.
