Ensure no forest region get encroached, CM tells officials

Published on:

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday directed officials to take utmost care so that no encroachment in State’s forest areas takes place.

He was chairing a meeting to discuss implementation of the amended Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers Act -2006 at the Mantralaya here.

The Chief Minister said that the Forest Management Committees and Gram Sabhas are capable of preventing encroachment of forest areas and now they have to play a crucial role in maintaining this task.

Baghel said that while Forest and Revenue departments play a significant role in the implementation of the Act, the Nodal Department for the implementation of the Act remains the Tribal Welfare Department.

‘This Act has the provision to benefit citizens who had been forest dwellers before December 13, 2015 and for the last three generations and for 75 years’, he said.

The prime objective is that rules must be followed and the forest dwellers get their legitimate rights, the Chief Minister said.

The people need to feel that it is their Government and its officers and associates are their guides, he said.

Scheduled Caste & Tribal Development Minister Dr Premsai Singh said that distribution of forest rights letters had been mentioned in the poll manifesto.

The forest dwellers never harm forest and instead they manage forest assets better, he said.
