Chhattisgarh State Child Rights Protection Commission chairman Yashwant Jain instructed the district education officers to ensure admission of the children of poor and downtrodden families into the 25% seats in private schools, prescribed under the Right to Free Education Act.

Addressing the district education officers through video conferencing organised by SCERT studio on Monday, Jain reviewed five main points — implementation of the Rights to Compulsory and Free-Education Act, dilapidated school building, separate toilet for girls, drinking water,

distribution of uniform and textbooks.

During the review, slow progress was found in the enrolment of children of poor families in the prescribed 25 per cent seats in private schools of Korea, Mahasamund, Janjgir, Rajnandgaon, Kanker, Bemet-hra, Jagadalpur, Ambikapur and Balodabazar districts. However, Jain expressed satisfaction in the status of admission of poor students in the schools of Durg, Bilaspur and Raigarh districts.

Jain said, in any condition kids should be kept secured from unsecured and dilapidated buildings, broken doors and water-filled grounds. After identifying ramshackle and unsecured school buildings, send a quick proposal to the officers concerned for their repair, he instructed.

Jain asked the officers to make separate toilets for girls and arrangements for drinking water. While discussing on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012, Jain said, sufficient publicity should be given to this Act.

State Council for Educat-ional Research and Training (SCERT) director Anil Rai and Child Rights Protection Commission secretary Prateek Khare were also present in the video conferencing.
