Engineers protest ‘one-sided action', stop regular work

nAn engineers' association has urged the General Manager of South East Central Railway (SECR) not to take one-sided action against Permanent Way Engineers after a probe into an accident found the Wagon and Carriage section also responsible.

In protest, the engineers have stopped the manual work on railway tracks, affecting track maintenance.

Based on the probe    findings, the SECR (Bilaspur division) handed over a chargesheet to two Permanent Way (railway track) engineers.

P.N. Rai, General Secretary of the South East Central Railway Engineers Association, said the committee which inquired into the October 5 accident involving Ahmedabad Express at the Bilaspur yard committed unfair investigative practices.

The association said the Permanent Way Engineers have been convicted when all the track parameters were within the permissible limits.

Why has engineering department been faulted while the Carriage and Wagon section has been let off, Rai asked.

The protesting Association has stopped all the manual work from November 12, affecting all the worksites where track parametres are frequently disturbed.

CPRO Saket Ranjan told ‘The Pioneer’ that the probe was conducted within the framework of rules and regulations.

The probe panel had officers from all departments including civil and had sought details from the engineers, he said. Based on the findings, the action has been initiated.
