A male elephant died of electrocution on Sunday in a farm land in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh.
The carcass of the elephant, aged 40-45 years, was found with the tusks intact near Medarmar village in the Dharamjaigarh forest range, Dharamjaigarh Divisional Forest Officer Abhishek Jogawat said.
Preliminary investigation suggests the elephant died of electrocution due to the presence of electric fences at a farm, he added.
The exact cause of death will be known once the post-mortem report arrives, he said.
