Electronic Manufacturing Cluster to have IT SEZ in vicinity

Published on:

The Chhattisgarh Government will be setting up an IT SEZ in the vicinity of the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) to be

established at Sector 22 in the new Capital.

The EMC would be at located about 7 km from the Swami Vivekananda . The site enjoys abundant water supply from the Mahanadi river and also have also sufficient power connection to cater the needs of operation in EMC.

The Greenfield EMC in Chhattisgarh was accorded

‘in-principle’ approval as on September 21, 2015.

The location of the EMC is at Tuta village in Sector-22 of Naya Raipur. The chief promoter of the project is Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation (CSIDC) and the project is to be established in an area measuring 70 acres.

Notably, on December 20 last year, the Chhattisgarh government had informed in an official statement that the Central government has consented to provide its final approval to the EMC.

An assurance in this regard was given by Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh during a meeting in New Delhi on December 20 last year.

Providing details on the ‘Electronic Manufacturing Cluster’ during the meeting, Chief Minister Raman Singh had told the Union Minister, as per the official statement, that as many as 11 companies have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to the tune of around `968 crore for setting up projects in the cluster.

The Chhattisgarh government has completed requisite preparation for development of the ‘Electronic Manufacturing Cluster’ and work in this regard is going to start immediately after receiving final approval from the Centre, it had mentioned.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister had also informed Prasad that Chhattisgarh is the first State in the country to offer its consent for setting up of Optical Fiber network under Bharat Net project and it has started the process for formation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV). During the next three years, the State government is going to connect as many as 10,000 village panchayats with broadband facility, he had informed.

Moreover, the Chief Minister had also urged the Union Minister to provide special administrative and financial incentives for Chhattisgarh, considering its unique geographical location for successful implementation of the important project.

As of now, there is minimal presence of Electronic System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) sector in the State. However, with its inherent strengths, the state has immense potential to become an ESDM hub of the country.

Chhattisgarh has emerged as a lucrative investment hub among its competing states with sectors like power, mining and minerals, manufacturing, sponge iron and steel, IT/ITes, biotechnology, food processing, etc. becoming key investment drivers and has attracted both domestic and foreign investment over the past few years.

The State is steadily garnering support from the investors, transforming it to a manufacturing and power hub of the country. While the state administration is based in Raipur, a new capital for Chhattisgarh at Naya Raipur has been developed.

Chhattisgarh is poised to become the next ESDM hub of India with the availability of enabling infrastructure, minerals and talent pool.

The Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation (CSIDC) will develop the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster in the region.

The proposed EMC is aimed at providing one stop integrated facilities with manufacturing support, welfare and common infrastructure facilities to the prospective electronics manufacturing industries. The proposed EMC is envisaged to house world class eco system for electronics manufacturing industries.

Assessments of the key infrastructure availability in the catchment area of the Project Site suggest that the catchment region is well equipped with the sector enabling infrastructure.

Six-lane expressways provide easy access to the city. At present, access is through NH-43 at the south- eastern boundary and NH-6 at the northern boundary of Naya Raipur. Nearly 75.2 km of 4 lane/six lane roads have already been constructed. 61 km road network is under construction, officials stated.

The power requirement of Naya Raipur is to be met in three phases. The city is having an underground power distribution system along with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system to have online monitoring and control of power supply.

Non-conventional and alternative energy resources are being used to the maximum. Street lighting is planed using latest technology with network control and lEDs. Solar power will be used widely in administrative buildings, street lighting and traffic signals, officials stated.
