Even after crores of rupees have been spent for electrification of 1551 villages under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidhyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY), electrification of 102 villages in the district is still pending for the past five years.
According to sources, under the RGGVY, nearly 1551 villages had to be electrified in the district. However, till now only 1449 villages have been brought under the jurisdiction of electricity department. The department is yet to perform physical verification at many villages.
According to sources, the company which was given the responsibility of physical verification of villages had to complete the task within three years, but the work is still incomplete. Under the scheme, transformers have been installed in 740 villages. Out of 740 places, the company had physically verified 651 locations while verification of 76 transformers is still pending.
Though crores of rupees have been spent for electrification of the villages under RGGVY, nearly 46 villages are yet being illuminated with solar panels.
Chief Engineer Prahlad Singh said that work has been completed in targeted villages but, physical verification has not been done in few villages. Under the scheme, only 1,449 villages have been electrified in the district.
