The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Chhattisgarh, P. Dayanand, on Friday said that the revision of electoral rolls will now be done every quarter.
This follows a new amendment notified by the Election Commission.
Briefing newspersons, the official said the option of adding an Aadhaar number to the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) has been made voluntary. The new EPIC card will have high security features, he said.
Dayanand said earlier the qualifying date was January 1 of each year for the new elector. Now, four qualifying dates have been decided: January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1.
The new elector can register with ECI well in advance. But only after the new elector attains the eligible age (18 years) will the EPIC be issued to him.
He said the Aadhaar number on EPIC will not be displayed anywhere. The purpose is to make the voter’s list error free and avoid duplication.
The new security features added to EPIC are Quick Response (QR) code, micro text, Guilloche pattern, hologram and Ghost Images. The new EPIC will be distributed through a speed post with a welcome letter, voter guide and voter pledge, he said.
