IPS officer OP Pal on Thursday claimed that he had never been approached by anyone to raise election fund for the ruling BJP in Chhattisgarh.
“Whatever has appeared in a section of media on Thursday that I wanted to go on a long leave because I had been given a fund target for coming up assembly polls, are completely baseless and a bundle of lies,’’ Pal who is Superintendent of Police, Raipur district, since February this year, told The Pioneer.
Pal had stirred a controversy for filing an application for six-month long leave after he was allegedly given a target by seniors to raise fund for the Government as State goes to polls by November. The officer added, “I have moved leave applicationentirely based on a family reason, it has nothing to do with the other issues, some people have made it an issue giving it a twist,’’.
He stated, “I will proceed on leave only after it is granted otherwise I will continue to do the job the way I am doing,’’. Meanwhile, State’ opposition Congress tried to extract political mileage out of the controversy and issued a statement on Thursday accusing the State Government of Rs pressuring the officers in the State to raise massive election fund for the BJP’’.
“The application moved by the Raipur SP for a long leave after he was pressurised by higher authorities to make election fund collection, is a highly serious issue,’’ the Congress statement read. It further added that Government officers in the State are now feeling disturbed as they have been given a specific target of election fund money for the ruling party.
