'Education budget less under Modi regime'

The Education Sector under Narendra Modi Government at the Centre has weakened, stated All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Shakeel Ahmad. He said that the strong educational infrastructure that was created after ten years is seeing budget cut in the present regime.

Talking to media persons as part of Congress party’s nation-wide campaign against the ruling NDA Government at the Centre , he charged that several under-qualified persons loyal to the government were appointed on important posts in different organisations.

According to Ahmad, the BJP Government has reduced the educational budget by Rs14,088.59 crore while the fund for elementary education budget has been cut by Rs10,186 crore. In the same way, budget for secondary education was reduced by Rs1,422 crore and higher education budget was also lowered by Rs1479 crore, he claimed.

“What could be described as another major jolt to education sector of the country, the Modi Government has also abolished the schemes for granting central assistance for setting up of 6,000 model schools at block level in the country,” he said.

Various eminent persons including nuclear scientist Dr Anil Kakodkar and Dr Raghunath Shevgaonkar have quit their positions alleging unwarranted interference from the political establishment, he said.

Expressing concern, Ahmad said that it took years to build these institutions into premier world class Centers of Excellence and it is all being thrown away under the incumbent regime.

Not only education, but  also budget of Health Ministry has also seen reduction, he said.
