EC sets Sep 23 for Dantewada by-polls

The Election Commission on Sunday announced by-polls to Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-riddled Dantewada assembly seat which is reserved for Scheduled Tribe. The polling will be held on September 23.

The election for Dantewada seat was necessitated as the sitting BJP legislator Bhima Mandavi was killed by leftist militants while he was campaigning for his party candidate in Dantewada district during parliamentary polls in April this year.

As per the programme schedule, the notification will be issued on August 28, 2019 and last date for filing of nomination papers is September 4 while the date of scrutiny for nominations is September 5.

The last date for withdrawal of candidatures is September 7. The date of poll is September 23 while counting of votes will be held on September 27.

The model code of conduct has come into force with immediate effect.

Chief Electoral Officer (Chhattisgarh) Subrat Sahoo when contacted informed that the Election Commission of India has not announced the by-elections date for Chitrakot assembly seat of Chhattisgarh which has also fallen vacant.

Congress MLA Deepak Baij from Chitrakot after winning Bastar Parliamentary constituency had resigned from the state assembly on June 4, 2019.
