The State chief electoral officer has sought reports from the head of the concern districts on Tuesday, after allegations that Yoga guru Baba Ramdev campaigned in favour of Bharatiya Janata party in their regions.

The commission has written to the collectors after allegations that he participated in a programme in Bemetara area, the constituency of Ravindra Choubey, the leader of the opposition in the assembly and appealed people to throw the Congress party out.

He also allegedly accused the Congress party of being neck deep in corruption and said people will teach the Congress a lesson in the election.

Baba Ramdev was in Chhattisgarh and during his stay he attended programmes in at least 15 assembly constituencies including in Ambikapur, Korea, Durg, Nandgaon, Kawardha and Bemetara.

Although the Government initially accorded him the state of guest status, it was withdrawn following complaints by political parties and organizations like the Congress, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Swabhiman Manch.

They accused him of campaigning for Bharatiya Janata party  as he was not uttering a word against the BJP.

The election commission said the concerned administrations have videographed the meetings Baba Ramdev addressed and they will be examined. The commission which has sought reports from all the concerned district collectors said appropriate actions would be taken after it receives the reports.
