Durg city's street lighting efficiency to be enhanced

Published on:

To improve the efficiency of street lighting in the city with minimum power consumption, the Energy Efficiency Services limited (EESl), a Central Government undertaking, has commenced operations in the city.

Durg is the first city in Chhattisgarh to get benefited by the services of the company, officials said.

Commissioner, Durg Municipal Corporation, SK Sundarani discussed about the work and project in a meeting with EESl’s Deputy General Manager (Technical) Ved Prakash Dindore and officers of the Energy Department of the Durg Municipal Corporation.

Dindore said that Durg is the first city in Chhattisgarh where EESl has started the work. The energy efficiency scheme will be implemented in Raipur, Bilapsur and Bhilai also.

The officers said that about 2000 street lights have been installed in the city and the

Durg Municipal Corporation has to pay lakhs of rupees against electricity bill for these lights. The Corporation has set a time limit for operation of street lights and the employees of corporation switch on and off the street lights.

Sundarani said that DMC and CREDA will bear 20 per cent of the expense in the project started by the EESl, while 80 per cent of the expense will be borne by the company itself. This will reduce additional burden on the corporation.

EESl has been promoted to assist the Central and State Governments in implementing the energy efficiency and realising savings.
