Union Minister of State for Agriculture and President of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) Dr Charandas Mahant on Friday said that the State-owned DSPM Power Plant’s Unit-K in Korba had been kept shut down since February this year as a 'pre-planned strategy'.
Mahant in a statement issued here said that a new turbine is being purchased worth crores of rupees after as much money had been already spent in an effort to get malfunctioning turbine at the plant repaired.
The officials of Chhattisgarh Power Generation Company say the repaired turbine would be back in the plant in the month of December while the new turbine is also expected around the same time, he said
Alleging corruption in power purchase arrangement, the CGPCC President said that the turbine malfunctioned in the month of February and demand of power rose during the summer months that followed.
‘Expensive power was overdrawn between February to July. During the period if the new turbine was installed there would not have been the requirement to purchase power, he said.
