Drizzle turns weather pleasant in capital

Published on:

A light drizzle in the     capital Raipur turned the weather pleasant on Friday, bringing down the mercury a few notches after it had shot up in recent days.

Light rainfall was also recorded in some other places in Chhattisgarh, the Meteorological office said.

Dr H.P. Chandra, a weather scientist at the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department, said the change in weather was due to a trough developed in northwestern Madhya Pradesh to southern Karnataka. Humidity came from Bay of Bengal.

As a result, light showers are expected in one or two places in southern Chhattisgarh, the Bastar region, he said.

There could also be thunderstorm accompanied with lightning in these places.

The maximum temperature was recorded on Friday at Durg where the mercury soared to 41.6 degrees Celsius, he said. Pendra Road of Bilaspur recorded the minimum of 21.4 degrees Celsius.

Light showers have been predicted on Saturday in Raipur, with maximum and minimum temperatures touching 35 degrees and 22 degrees Celsius respectively.

Meanwhile, the Shankar Nagar bungalow of Urban Administration Minister Shiv Kumar Daharia was hit by lightning on Friday evening.

The Minister was      present at that time but no one was injured.

When Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel telephoned Daharia, the latter said: “By the grace of God I am safe. Only power supply was disrupted due to a short circuit caused by lightning."
