Dr Punit Gupta, son-in-law of former chief minister Raman Singh who is wanted in connection with a multi-million scam ignored the notice served to him, police said here on Tuesday.
Gupta was expected to reach Gol Bazaar police station to record his statement over charges of fund embezzlement at DKS Hospital when he was posted there as superintendent.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) waited for Dr Gupta for about three hours at Gol Bazaar police station but Gupta did not turn up.
“We will again issue a notice to Dr Gupta for presenting himself before police. If he overlooks the notice then we shall consider other options to nab him,” City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Nasar Siddiqui told reporters.
Notable, Gupta had recently got anticipatory bail from the Bilaspur High Court in this case.
Superintendent of DK Super-Specialty Hospital K.K. Sahare had filed a complaint at the Gol Bazaar police station in Raipur, alleging irregularities to the tune of Rs 50 crore during Gupta's tenure.
Sahare has mentioned in his complaint that large-scale irregularities took place when Gupta was the superintendent of the hospital from December 2015 to October 2018.
Gupta has been charged under sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
Gupta is absconding since the case was filed and a look out circular was later issued by the police.
He is also one of the accused in Antagarh Tapes case. In that case too he had been granted an anticipatory bail by the High Court.
