Dr G B Gupta has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Chhattisgarh Ayush and Health Science University, Raipur on Thursday.
The appointment order to this effect was issued by Governor Shekhar Dutt who is also the Chancellor of Universities in the State.
The appointment was made in exercise of powers under Chhattisgarh Ayush and Health Science University Act 2008 (Serial 21, Year 2008).
Dr Gupta who is currently the Professor and Head of the Department of Medicine at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College, Raipur would replace Vice Chancellor Dr A T Dabke on the day of the expiry of his service tenure at the University.
Meanwhile, while reacting to Gupta’s appointment as the Vice Chancellor, State Congress spokesperson Sushil Anand in a statement issued here on Thursday stated that the appointment would further increase the intervention of Chief Minister’s family members in Chhattisgarh’s service matters.
Moreover, he said in the statement that the appointment of a tainted officer such as Narayan Singh allegedly involved in the furniture and ‘Malik Makbuja’ scam to the Quasi-judicial post of Chairman of Chhattisgarh Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) must be explained by the Chief Minister.
Anand said that a person whose promotion was stopped due to his alleged involvement in the scams is being given a ‘Quasi-judicial post’ at the (CERC) Chairman.
The Chief Minister should make it known if there is any criminal case registered against Dr Gupta, he said.
