Former Food Secretray and one of the accused in the multi-crore Public Distribution System (PDS) scam, Dr Alok Shukla was granted anticipatory bail by Chhattisgarh High Court, Bilaspur on Wednesday.
Advocate of Shukla, Piyush Bhatia, informed: “The court granted the bail on the ground that the FIR was not filed against his client and only supplementary charge-sheet was filed against him and that too after the long period of two and half years”, he said.
Notable, the alleged Rs 36000 crore- PDS scam was exposed in February 2015 when ACB and EOW sleuths conducted simultaneous raids at 25 premises of Chhattisgarh State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited and residences of its officials.
During the raid, a 113-page diary (in which names of beneficiaries of the scam were mentioned) was allegedly recovered.
The Congress party which was then in opposition had alleged that the content of only six pages of the diary was covered in the probe while remaining 107 pages were skipped.
The Congress also alleged that former chief minister Raman Singh and his family members and even a cook of him are involved in the scam as per the content of the recovered diary.
After coming to power, the Congress government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged financial irregularities in the Chhattisgarh State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited.
