Having clinched gold in the swimming competition organised by Chhattisgarh Swimming Association, Varshil Pandey of Delhi Public School (DPS), Raipur became the sole swimmer from Chhattisgarh to be selected for the Nationals.
Another participant, Arihant Jain of class XII also won gold medal in ‘50m Butterfly’ re-establishing his acclaim as master-swimmer of Chhattisgarh State, according to a DPS press release issued here on Friday.
Arihant went on to bag silver, both in 1500m Freestyle and 200m IM. But he settled for a bronze in the 800m Freestyle event, not before giving his competitors a tough chase to the finish.
Varshil, a class IV student, on the other hand, has not only secured a gold medal in the 50m Breaststroke event but also became eligible to compete in the upcoming Nationals to be held at Pune from July 13 to 19 under the auspices of the Swimming Federation of India.
DPS Raipur Principal Raghunath Mukherjee, lauded their achievements in the Morning Assembly the following day reiterating his faith in these two swimmers and predicting them as winners of the Nationals too. Senior Member of the Management Committee, Vijay Shah congratulated the students saying, “Your skilful adeptness in swimming championship has earned you many a medal and will keep us hungry for more. So may God bless you and may you win many more laurels for the school.”
