SWEAR, an NGO initiated by students of Delhi Public School (DPS), Raipur conducted a health check–up camp at Nardaha, the school’s adopted village on Wednesday .
A flex intimating the people about the time and venue of the medical camp up was put up at the girls school in the village as a part of the awareness programme due to which people started queuing up from 10 a.m. in the morning, a school press release informed.
Their weight, blood pressure and a routine check up was executed by a team of doctors who prescribed medicines, recommended some for blood test, even distributed some essential medicines free of cost.
A few students also became volunteers in the camp to guide the villagers thus rendering a yeoman’s service according to the Village Sarpanch.
At the close of the day, about a hundred men and women availed the benefit of this camp thus bringing a phenomenal success to the endeavour, it stated.
The doctors personally commended the initiative taken by the students saying, “This kind of community service will enable a healthy interaction between the students and the villagers and create sympathy for their problems.”
Since the NGO’s flagship, this is the first medical camp that was organized under the supervision of the school authorities, but it proposes to follow up the counsels of the doctors through many such health and hygiene programmes that will ensure consciousness of the rural folk towards their physical and mental fitness.
Principal Raghunath Mukherjee appraised this measure as a very conscientious approach by the students; a step that will guide them closer to reality, enable them to realize the significance of dealing with health problems in day-to-day life for people who are less privileged.
He further said that since the launching of the NGO is a multi-mission concept, it will bring a sea change in the students towards their values and responsibilities.
The School Management Committee members extended their support with solidarity saying, “We are with you in all such projects that you consider would improve the overall conditions of the village.”
