The students of Eco club of Delhi Public School (DPS), Raipur initiated a ‘Save Sparrow Campaign’ under the guidance of Usha Kutty, a Science teacher and mentor of the Eco club of the school.
This campaign was organized at Gandhi Udyan to create awareness and attention on the species. The students wrote slogans, designed posters and organised various awareness events to create a buzz about the endangered species and also came up with some very economical steps that one needs to take for protecting them.
The students distributed handbills containing information and measures, scattered millets, put water bowls etc. They also spoke to the denizens present there to empower them with simple solutions which will not involve a lot of time and resources but at the same time will have a significant impact on sparrow conservation.
They appealed to the people to put bird boxes and feeder outside their houses or gardens.
Principal Raghunath Mukherjee encouraged the students and stressed on the importance of such social activities parallel to academics in shaping a positive society.
