Kanker district administration has suspended the District Programme Officer and police have arrested the coordinator of the adoption centre after the department filed a complaint on Monday.
A video of the coordinator of Shivnagar based Specialised Adoption Agency in Kanker assaulting the minor girl went viral, Kanker district administration took the immediate punitive action.
Kanker District Collector Dr Priyanka Shukla said that District Program Officer Chandrashekhar Mishra has been suspended for negligence in taking action against the complaints found during the investigation at Specialized Adoption Agency, Shivnagar, Kanker.
She said under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act sections offence has been registered. The police have taken into custody Seema Dwivedi, the coordinator, involved in the alleged assault.
The Collector said that the complete activity of the adoption agency has been suspended. Apart from it, recommendations to cancel the registration of Pratigya Vikas Sansthan, Durg, which operates the agency has been made.
On receipt of a complaint against the adoption agency, the team of the Directorate of Women and Child Development conducted a surprise inspection on Sunday. The veracity of the complaint was confirmed in the investigation.
On confirming the above complaints, the Collector recommended to the Director Women and Child Development Department to cancel the registration of Pratigya Vikas Sansthan Durg, an organization operating a specialized adoption agency in Kanker, an official communication said.
Collector said all necessary steps are being taken for the safety and care of all the children.
