Demanding amendment in National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill, doctors across the State staged a token protest in the capital on Monday. The protest was held under the banner of Indian Medical Association (IMA).

During the protest, doctors and medical students took out a march from Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Raipur and raised slogans after reaching the District Collectorate and handed over a Memorandum. The Out Patients Department (OPDs) in government hospitals was badly affected with the token strike of doctors for a couple of hours.

The OPDs remained closed from 12 pm to 2 pm. Only emergency services in the Government and private hospitals were operational during the protest hours.

Doctors are claiming that the bill have several practical difficulties which could bring impediments in their profession. Chhattisgarh Chapter President of IMA, Dr Ashok Tripathi said the Government was permitting Ayurvedic and Homeopathic doctors to practice Allopathy after doing bridge course.

The IMA is strongly opposing this along with their protest also for an additional examination for doctors after passing MBBS, he said.
