Health Minister Amar Agrawal said that Dau Kalyan Singh Hospital in Raipur would soon be upgraded to a super speciality hospital. Administration of DKS Hospital had demanded Rs85 crore from the State Government and proposed to transform the hospital into a super specialty hospital about a month back. If the Government accedes to the demand, DKS Hospital would offer services pertaining to neurosurgery, plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, and nephrology. When contacted, Medical Superintendent Dr Vishnu Dutt said that the budget would bring ‘good news’ for the hospital. Construction of wards and operation theatres would begin as soon as the funds are allocated to the hospital in the budget, he said.
Drive to recruit nurses and ward boys would begin soon. Equipments for neurosurgery, plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, and nephrology departments would be bought. Dutt also said that four minor departments of Ambedkar Hospital, which are currently functioning in DKS Building, will be shifted back to its parent hospital. The four departments had been shifted to DKS Building to reduce some pressure off the Ambedkar Hospital.
