Amid ongoing controversy over distribution of Mahanadi River water between Chhattisgarh and Odisha, Congress party MlA Dhanendra Sahu said that political parties in Odisha were ‘manufacturing’ controversy over the issue and just taking 'political mileage'.
“The Chhattisgarh government by not vehemently opposing the vile political attempts in a way is supporting it,” Sahu charged in a press statement released here on Wednesday.
According to Sahu, both Odisha and Chhattisgarh have failed in the effective tapping of Mahanadi river water and about 80 per cent of its water was getting into the sea.
For covering their failures and misleading the public ,this controversy was being created, he opined.
The ‘Hirakund’ dam in Odisha and ‘Ravishankar Jalashya Pariyojana’ along with numerous other irrigation schemes that are irrigating several thousand hectares of land in Chhattisgarh was conceived and created during the Congress regime, he maintained.
Attacking the ruling BJP regime in Chhattisgarh, Sahu said that in during the past 13 years, the State government has not been able to construct any huge irrigation project on Mahanadi river but for selling water to industrialists, six barrages and Anicuts at different places have been erected.
Making a mention about Sondhur-2, Baruka Dam and Pairi-Mahanadi link project which according to Sahu have been approved by the Central Water Commission (CWC) said that the State government has not able to get these works completed in past several years.
“People of Chhattisgarh have right on every drop of Mahanadi’s water and Congress party will fight for this right,” he said.
