Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday told officials to quickly dispose of police cases related to atrocities on members of the SC and ST.
He said this at a review meeting of the state level SC/ST vigilance and monitoring committee here. He took part though videoconferencing.
The Chief Minister reviewed the cases registered in 2019, 2020 and 2021 under the SC/ST Atrocity Act 1989 and the relief sanctioned for these cases.
If there was any difficulty in verifying caste through police, then the concerned Gram Sabha must be asked if the person belonged to the said community or not, Baghel said.
The department of Law, Home Affairs, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Welfare must coordinate and review the cases in case of dispute, he added.
The Chief Minister also told the law department to tell Special Public Prosecutors to quickly dispose of the cases registered in special courts.
