Digital technology has changed the present scenario and has decentralised creativity, said Paresh Kamdar, National Award winning Editor and Director while interacting with reporters at 2nd Raipur International Film Festival (RIFF) here on Tuesday.
“Digital technology has however also brought a kind of indiscipline in film making. Earlier, ‘quality of attention’ on a shot used to be very high as the resources were limited in the form of celluloid. So, people used to focus on a shot and avoided unnecessary coverage,” he said.
Nowadays, with digital technology in hand, people tend to do more ‘coverage’ than actually required for the film, he said.
Paresh Kamdar an alumnus of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Pune speaking over the recent protests at FTII Pune said “every institution has ups and downs in its life. However, FTII has a very outstanding kind of syllabus, therefore, it will produce good students.”
Kamdar had won national award for editing ‘Rasyatra’ in 1994. He had also edited ‘Good Roads’ the film that was nominated to be sent for prestigious Oscar awards from India.
“As an Editor, one should know what the Director actually wants, what his views are about the film ,” he said in reply to a question about the editing of cinema.
