nDr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur is going to organize a digital awareness campaign on the occasion of ‘World Sight Day’ falling on Thursday.
The campaign will be conducted on social media as well as at telemedicine centres, a press release said on Wednesday.
“On the second Thursday of October, ‘World Sight Day’ is observed for making people aware of eyes and ways to keep it safe,” Head of Department Ophthalmology at Pt JLN Medical College Raipur Prof Dr ML Garg said in a statement.
Knowledge about common eye problems and diseases is must to keep them safe. For example, most eye troubles can be sorted out through specs. However, cataract requires operation, Dr Garg said.
Glaucoma is caused by drying of eye nerves. So, after 40 years, eyes examination is suggested, he said.
Eye injuries are another major reason causing blindness. So, if there is even a minor injury in the eye, the doctor should be consulted or the injury can affect cornea or other parts of the eye leading to blindness, he added.
