After leopards, now even monkeys have began to torment human beings residing in the villages of Sorid, Jalampr, Dani Tola, Batena, and Shanti Colony. According to the villagers, a band of around 50 to 100 monkeys have entered into the villages hooting, jumping and destroying their crops and households.
However, as usual, the forest officials have turned a deaf ear to the repeated complaints of the villagers about the monkey menace and asked them to cope up with the animals and wait for the monsoon to arrive so that the monkeys retire to the jungles.
According to sources, soaring temperature and scarcity of water in the jungles have forced these animals to move into the human habitats. Even as the pack of monkeys continues to attack the fields and feed on vegetables and fruits, the farmers are left to deal with them in their own ways.
Rajuram Sahu, a resident of Shyamtarai village said, “Earlier also monkeys used to enter into villages during summer but were not as danger as today.” The roof tiles of his house have been damaged by these animals, he added.
Renuka Dewangan of Panchvati colony said that the monkeys have started creating problem for the residents. They take away the cloths and destroy other eatables kept outside.
