Development works in State likely to be hit

With the model code of conduct likely to come into force again after three months in Chhattisgarh for lok Sabha election, developmental work in the State is likely to take a hit.

The election to the 90-seat State Assembly was held in two phase on November 11 and 19 and the model code of conduct was still in force in the State.

As a result large numbers of developmental works have been affected, although, the State Government led by Chief Minister Raman Singh had presented an annual general budget of Rs 37,000 crore.

Ahead of the election, the Government approved very few projects. As a result works worth hundreds of crore rupees have either slowed down or have not started yet.  The authorities also did not grant approval to any new projects.

The Assembly election process is likely to take some time as the counting would be held on December 8. Similarly, the works are also likely to get delayed as the new Government which would be formed after the declaration of results would take its own time.

Experts feel, the deadlock is likely to continue until the completion of next lok Sabha election slated in April. The Election Commission is likely to issue notification for the lok Sabha election probably in March.

The election code of conduct would come into effect immediately after the deceleration of the polls. The entire election process is likely to continue until May. They said only those works which would get approval between January and March would be carried out.

Similarly soon after the election, the rainy season would start and the work will further get affected as authorities do not carry out developmental works generally during rain.
