Despite warning, none of the private nursing home, clinic, hospital, and pathology laboratory Directors has so far done online registration of their institution. However, the Health Department was planning to slap huge fine, along with action on the erring institution.
In order to bring transparency in the health facilities being provided by the private nursing homes, clinics, hospitals and pathology laboratories, the health department had implemented the Nursing Home Act in the State. However, the Directors of these private nursing homes, hospitals, and pathology laboratories are seemed to be not serious in adhering to the Act.
So far, none of them have submitted the certificate, even though the last date for registration was November 19. Some of the private hospital Directors have returned after having information about the rules of registration, whereas, some pathology lab and private clinic operators are not making efforts to get their institutions registered, saying the rules are too hard.
However, the health department has made full preparations to take action against the private nursing homes, hospitals and pathology laboratories which are not completing formalities upto the appointed date. According to sources, more than seven nursing homes, over 30 pathology labs and 80 medical stores in the district.
It is mandatory for the agency authorised for registration to take clearance from the corporation and Environment Protection Board. This Act has been implemented in the district from August last and the institutions were given time from September 19 to November 19 for registration.
After the implementation of the Act, all the institutions had been instructed to do online registration. According to the information received from the health department, following the application for online registration, temporary registration would be provided to the institution. later, the team formed by the health department will inspect the institution within six months and submit its report to the committee and the committee will send the report to the collector. After approval from the collector, permanent registration of the institution would be done.
For the adherence of the Nursing Home Act, a seven-member committee has been formed, which, after complete inspection, will implement the Act. The team comprises District Collector, CMHO, Corporation commissioner, Panchayat CEO, member of Environment Protection Board, district Ayurveda officer and civil surgeon. The authority to take action against the erring institution will be with the collector. The committee will see that the institution is providing the facilities, which it has claimed.
According to BMO BK Thakur, action along with fine would be taken against private nursing home, clinic, hospital, and pathology laboratory directors on non-registration. Information in this regard would be given to the collector and the CMHO soon, he added.
