A large number of women voters once again turned out to exercise their franchise in the Maoist heartland of Bastar on Thursday.long queues of women could be seen in most polling booths in Narayanpur, Jagdalpur, Sukma and Bijapur districts since the early morning hours.
The high women voter turnout was no different from the Assembly polls in Bastar in Chhattisgarh when women defying all Maoist threats came out in large numbers to vote at various polling booths in the region.
Many tribal women walked for miles barefoot before reaching the polling booths to cast their vote in the Maoist strongholds without caring about the threat issued by the rebels who had given a call for boycott of polls in Bastar. There were also many tribal women who brought their children along with them as they walked to cast their vote.
