Deenanath grass gives new life to Bacheli area

Published on:

If everything goes well, the lifeless mounds of soils mixed with iron ore residue will start producing large quantity of green fodder besides changing the landscape of Bacheli and Kirandul as Deenanath Grass has firmly taken its roots on this barren place, thanks to the efforts of forest department officials who sweated hard for land conservation.

Forest conservator M T Nandi along with National Mineral Development Corporation officials visited ‘Deposit V’ Monday and saw the success of Deenanath Grass plantation and was happy to see the green layer of grass covering the barren mound of soils, which till date yielded nothing.

Notably, ‘Deposit V’ having an area of 540 hectares is believed to be the formation of Jurassic period which has now turned into a mound of fallow soils bereft of fertility. With the successful plantation of Deenanath Grass here, it will not only produce tonnes of green fodder but will also be able to change the flora of the area turning it into a green area.

Nandi and NMDC officials later visited the premises of Essar company and its iron ore processing plant and also issued necessary directives for making the area green.
