Declare areas with poor rains drought-hit: BJP

Published on:

The BJP on Thursday urged the Chhattisgarh government to survey areas which received scant rainfall and declare them drought-hit.

The government should also release immediate relief to the farmers in such areas as around 20 percent of the cropped area has been affected, former Chief Minister Raman Singh said.

The farmers are already facing shortages of fertilizers, seeds and power. In drought like situation, they need uninterrupted power, Singh told the media at Jagdalpur at the end of a three-day ‘Chitan Shivir’ of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

When the state is facing a drought like situation, it is unfortunate the administration has been paralysed due to infighting in the ruling Congress, he said.

The BJP will take up long-term issues related to unemployment, employment allowance for youths, tendu leaves procurement and liquor prohibition, he said.

Singh accused the state government of failing to make systematic procurement of forest produce in tribal and forest areas. This will be one of the core issues of the BJP, to be taken to the streets.

Whenever the Congress comes to power, religious conversion has increased, he said. The BJP will create awareness among the people on this issue.
