Following the Maoist daredevilry act of attack on Doordarshan (DD) centre situate at the heart of Bastar, Jagdalpur in which three jawans martyred on Sunday, the Director General (DG) of Doordarshan Tripurari Sharan and Engineer-in-chief RK Sinha reached the Bade Marenga DD Centre, on Monday. The staff at DD Jagdalpur informed the top brass Doordarshan officials about the ground situation.

Talking with reporters at Jagdalpur Director DD said that had reached Jagdalpur to take stalk of the ground situation after the attack. He further said that whatever facts will come to light after his visit will be discussed with Union Information and Broadcasting Minister.

“We will urge him to step up the security of DD centres” DG said. He informed that the issue was already discussed with Union Home Secretary. The DG was of view that after the terrible incident workers of the centre were reeling under fear and being head of the DD family it was his duty to reach at the spot and boost their moral. This was the first time that any such incident happened in Chhattisgarh. A similar incident had occurred in Andhra Pradesh few years back, the DG informed.

later on DG reached Raipur and addressing a press conference he said that security has been beefed up at the Morenga DD centre and more guards have been sent. “We will also review the security conditions in small DD centres and will try to improve it wherever needed,” he said. To a query he said “we are dependent on the State Government for security in Doordarshan centres.” He further informed that to safeguard the major mechanical installations in the DD centre we would chalk out a plan after reviewing the situation. After going through the facts the DG concluded that DD centre was not  the target of Maoists, but the security guards were on the aim of ultras, since the centre was left untouched by insurgents.

He also assured that Doordarshan will provide every possible help to the

people affected by this act

of terror.

Notably suspected Maoist insurgents had attacked Akashwani and Doordarshan Centre located on National Highway 16 at village Bade Marenga, around 13 km away from divisional headquarters Jagdalpur, and killed 3 CAF jawans besides injuring another who was shifted to Raipur after initial treatment at Medical College Hospital Jagdalpur.

The incident occurred around 2 am Saturday night when five to six Maoist insurgents reportedly entered the premises of Akashwani Kendra by removing the fencing wire.
