Dantewada by-poll candidates to file papers today

Published on:

Candidates which are planning to contest Scheduled Tribe reserved Dantewada assembly by-polls scheduled on September 23, are expected to file nomination papers on Monday.

No candidates have filed papers so far though a notification for the by-polls was issued on October 28.

The election has been necessitated as the sitting BJP legislator Bhima Mandawi was killed by the suspected leftist militants in April this year while he was campaigning for his party in Lok Sabha polls.

The BJP has announced to field late Mandavi’s wife Ojaswi Mandavi while state’s ruling Congress has decided to bet on Devati Karma, wife of noted tribal leader of Bastar Mahendra Karma who was brutally killed by the ultras in May 2013 at Jheeram valley in Bastar.

Janta Congress Chhattisgarh, a regional outfit floated by the former chief minister Ajit Jogi, has announced to field Sumeet Karma to make it a three-way fight. The counting of votes will take place on September 27.
