CSPDCL urges attendants to return to work

The Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Co Ltd (CSPDCL) has urged the striking contractual attendants to return to work, saying they could take part in the recruitment for 1,500 posts as their experience will be counted.

An indefinite strike is on since August 10 under the banner of the Chhattisgarh Electricity Employees Union in support of three demands. The management has held talks on the demands, a company communication said on Friday.

The company is deploying 2,510 contractual workers while the existing total vacant regular posts are 2,047. The company has released a recruitment process for 1,500 posts.

CSPDCL General Manager D.R. Sahu said the first demand of the union is regularization of the contractual workers. As per the contractual appointment agreement there is no such provision.

This is why they are being asked to take part in the process to fill up 1,500 vacancies. Their experience will be given priority.

The next year another 1,500 posts will be filled, he said.

Sahu said in case of fatal accidents, the compensation has been raised from Rs 8 lakhs to Rs 15 lakhs. But the contract employees' nearest kin are not eligible for compassionate appointment, he said.
