Director of home department of the Union Government has in a letter to Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh asked to provide Z plus security to Union Minister of State for Agriculture and acting president of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee Charandas Mahant.
Drawing the attention of the state government to ongoing Balidani Maati Yatra of Congress and May 25 Jeeram Valley Maoist attack on Congress convoy in which 27 people were killed including the sitting CGPCC chief Nand Kumar Patel, Mahendra Karma, V C Shukla, Uday Mudliyar, the letter said that as PCC president Mahant would have to visit throughout the state, a major portion of which is under Maoist influence.
Therefore, the Central Home Ministry has decided to accord Z Plus security to Mahant to avoid any threat to his personal security.
