The Special Force Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers involved in the anti-insurgency operations in Bastar have been equipped with Israel made, highly sophisticated and lethal ‘X95 Assault’ rifles for achieving higher precision on targets.

According to weapons experts, the ‘X-95’ rifle is an ultra-compact light-weight rifle weighing just 2.98 kg and can use two different calibers of ammunition. The rifle can also fire 240 rounds continuously, making it the first choice of the special forces in several countries.

Inspector General of Police (Naxal Operations) GP Singh confirmed that the ‘X95' rifle has been provided to the CRPF troopers in Bastar.

The CRPF troopers had also been using the homemade INSAS rifles and the AK-47s for many years besides the ‘X95’ rifles provided to them to combat insurgency in Bastar.

This ‘X95’ rifle provides the jawans night vision capability while facilitating neutralization of targets at a distance of upto 300 metres.

Significant to mention here is that the ‘X95’ is the ‘Special Forces’ firearm of the next generation developed by Israel. The X95 was developed in close cooperation with elite units and was tailored to their specific requirements and needs. The ‘X95’ was created to deal with modern threats of anti-terror, urban and open area combat all one mission.

Weapons experts say the biggest advantage of the ‘X-95’ is its ability to switch from 5.56mm ammunition to 9mm ammunition in less than five minutes, allowing a commando to use the weapon in anti-terror, urban or open area combat alike. Also, this ensures a back-up if one type of ammunition runs out.

The interchangeability can be done with a silencer for all calibers, thus distinguishing itself as the ideal weapon for special forces dealing with complicated situations, experts say.
