In a shocking display of sheer insensitiveness, a critically injured Tribal boy lost his life even as two key medical departments at Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital (BRAMH) the biggest Government hospital of State kept debating over who must handle the patient's case for two days.

Finally the disappointed family members of boy took him back home where he died few days back.

The tribal boy Bodhram Betra (12) of Padampur village in Jagdalpur district had been plucking mangoes after climbing the tree on few days back when his foot slipped leading to a fatal fall on the ground. The fall even led to a three inch wooden chip getting pierced below his right eye.

The boy in critical condition was rushed by his family to the local Jagdalpur Maharani Hospital where doctors referred him to BRAMH hospital in Raipur.

However at the hospital the specialists of Department of Ophthalmology and the Department of Neurology at the hospital kept debating over who must handle the case with his medical condition of having a wooden piece stuck below his right eye besides the situation of a possible grievous cerebral injury (on the fact that he fell from a tree and was unconscious), the boy was reportedly kept shuttling in the hospital in need of an emergency surgery.

Finally, the parents of the boy, it was learnt, took him back home after no emergency surgery took place resulting in his death thereafter.

However, the authorities at BRAMH have maintained that the Bodhram underwent X Ray, Sonography and the MRI scan and was admitted in the Neurosurgery ward where his parents got him discharged and took him somewhere.

Talking with The Pioneer Superintendent of BRAMH Dr Vivek Choudhary said refused to comment over the matter citing the reason that matter was under investigation. He said “state government is taking interest over the matter and it will not be appropriate for me to comment over the issue,” Dr Choudhary said and added that the matter will be cleared in one or two days. When questioned who was investigating the matter he dodged the question.

The hospital authorities further maintained that the surgery was not possible as the boy was on a ventilator and furthermore the surgery was not even possible in other hospitals also as it would have caused grave danger to his life.

Principal Secy. Health livid over gross negligence.

However, Principal Secretary, Health M K Raut was livid when informed about the boy's case and questioned how the boy was discharged from the hospital when he was on a ventilator.

Rout on Friday evening summoned the Superintendent of Dr Ambedkar Hospital Dr Vivek Choudhary with complete details of the case while terming the episode as ‘extremely grave’ . It was learnt that the Principal Secretary wants the matter to be thoroughly investigated and the culprits punished.

He also was reported to have told Dr Choudhary that thousands of people have faith in the services offered by the Hospital. If the parents of the boy were demanding to take him home, the hospital authorities should have explained the condition of the boy to them.

How can anybody discharge a patient by merely being asked which is highly objectionable, Raut was reported to have stated to the Medical Superintendent.
